Code of Conduct
The symposium is a place to do science. Everyone taking part is expected to help keep it welcoming and harassment-free.
The short version
Be respectful. Critique ideas, not people. Assume good faith. Harassment of any kind is not tolerated, on-site or in any online space run by the symposium.
Expected behaviour
- Treat everyone with respect, regardless of background, identity or seniority.
- Keep technical disagreement technical, and give others room to speak.
- Respect the "no photos" wishes of any speaker or attendee.
- Follow the instructions of organisers and venue staff.
Unacceptable behaviour
- Harassment, intimidation or discrimination in any form.
- Offensive verbal or written comments related to gender, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, race, religion or nationality.
- Unwelcome sexual attention, deliberate intimidation, stalking, or following.
- Sustained disruption of talks or other events.
- Advocating for, or encouraging, any of the above.
Reporting a problem
If you experience or witness a breach of this code, or have any other concern, contact a member of the organising team. You can find them at the registration desk, identified by their badges, or write to the organisers through the Contact page. Reports are handled discreetly.
Consequences
Participants asked to stop any unacceptable behaviour are expected to comply immediately. Organisers may take any action they deem appropriate, up to and including a warning, expulsion from the event with no refund, or referral to the relevant authorities.
Scope
This code applies to all symposium spaces, including talks, workshops, the summer school, social events, and any associated online channels, as well as one-to-one communications carried out in the context of the event.
